THE LACANAU HERITAGE

Summer resort built at the start of the XXth century, LACANAU OCEAN offers a colourful architectural heritage composed by old seaside villas, from the most modest to the most opulent.

The originality of their architecture lies in the building method. Only a few
of them where designed by an architect. The artisan-building contractors proposed to their customers a standard house with a catalogue of ornamental elements and embellishments, where the customer made his own choice.

The Tourist Office has published a booklet that will help you to discover,
seen from the outside, all the richness of that heritage, by the mean of
4 different trips, 1.5 km to 2.2 km each, in the centre of the town.

  To complete the architectural aspect, a group of Lacanau’s inhabitants
  has been working for years on the history of the town.

Located at Lacanau Ville, the museum “MEMOIRE CANAULAISE” welcomes you :
  • in April, May and June : Tuesday from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm
  • in July, August and September : Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm
